Elvin F. Knotts -- Growing Up Years
Elvin Knotts was born in Talmage, Iowa on October 22, 1930.
He was the youngest of the family with three older sisters -- Betty, Neva, and Audrey.
They moved from Talmage to Afton; then when Elvin was 14 years old, they moved to Creston, Iowa.
He went to Creston High School, played in the band, played on the basketball team, and was the president of his 1949 graduating class.
After high school, he attended Creston Jr. College for one and a half years until he joined the United States Air Force in January 1951 because of the Korean conflict.
It was in Creston, Iowa that he met his bride-to-be... Patricia Anderson. They dated, fell in love and got married November 2, 1953 -- the same day he got his wings as a pilot!
