Scrapbook
When this Honor Site was originally created, it was done in secret and intended to be a suprise for my dad to be presented to him in Iowa as we were all gathered together for the Iowa Aviation Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
Being a suprise, we had to work behind his back (actually, right under his nose) to get pictures to include and to verify information. Special thanks to his wife, Pat, and my son, BJ, for helping pull it off. And special thanks also to my younger kids for not telling Grandpa.
But now that he knows, I've asked him to give me other items he would like to see included. He has agreed to give me some other photos. When they are ready, I'll put them up. But I have ready now one of his favorite poems.

High Flight
by John Gillespie Magee, Jr.
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds -- and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of -- wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along,
And flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind
I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
